Just before 2:30 Friday morning, a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Foscoe, causing injuries to Nicholas Lee Strader, who was taken to Watauga Medical Center.  Medics had hoped for an Air Ambulance for Strader, but weather conditions would not permit, although trooper Alexander says they are working to transfer the 34-year old Will Isaacs Road man. Alexander said that Strader told him he was lighting a cigarette, took his eyes off the road, ran off of the road to the right, slammed into the utility pole, his 2004 Jeep overturning twice.  It wasn’t clear whether Strader was ejected—he didn’t seem sure—but the impact  damaged the utility pole so that BREMCO had to come to replace the pole. Nicholas Lee Strader is charged with Failure to Maintain Lane Control and Exceeding a Safe Speed for the Curve.
