The Beech Mountain Town Council honored former Police Chief Jay Hefner at their meeting this week. The recently retired chief was presented a number of plaques, including an award from Governor Pat McCrory, then was given a trip to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry as a gift. In other Beech business, a Public Hearing had no public comment on amending Nuisance Regulations regarding trailers or campers. Jes Scott asked that the ordinance include non-motorized, abandoned or junked vehicles, and Councilwoman Cindy Keller suggested adding appliances, but the Council agreed that refrigerators and freezers were already included in language referring to 'similar items'. Scott’s amendment was approved unanimously. Scott requested feedback on the Proposed Town Comprehensive plan which is a long term plan and vision for the future of Beech Mountain, the entire plan available online. Among other business  the long awaited Historical Society will open next week, and there was a request for a budget amendment to finish renovation of the tennis court, delayed due to heavy rainfall. Also noted was that the town will pick up yard debris as long as it is no larger than 6 feet.
