Wednesday, 05 December 2007 04:38

Investigators have listed the cause of a Tuesday woods fire as arson.

The fire, which was reported just after 2 p.m., attracted Stewart Simmons, Blowing Rock and Boone fire departments as well as the North Carolina Forest Service. 8 fire trucks, 25 firefighters and one aerial observation plane were at the scene.  .  Sampson Road contained the fire on one side, and a logging road helped make the scene accessible. The blaze consumed approximately 3 acres before it was completely contained just before 6 p.m.

A reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest. Watauga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case. Anyone with information on the arson is asked to call the Office at 828-264-3761.
