Boone Police cleared the scene last night at the Boone Best Western, turning the facility back over to the management.  The move came hours after a press conference in which the cause of the triple tragedy—three deaths in two incidents in two months, tied up Boone Police, fire, and other resources for five days. Today, with the police tape and cones gone, there was some traffic at the Hotel, but a hand-scrawled sign on the door, indicating that the Hotel was still closed. Some yard and maintenance work was evident on the property, but no outward signs of repairs to the system that is now blamed for the deaths of Daryl and Shirley Jenkins, 73 and 72, and 11-year old Jeffrey Lee Williams and injury to his mother, 49-year old Jeannie Williams. Boone Police Chief Dana Crawford told the press late yesterday they found the source of the carbon monoxide gas that killed the three in room 225.
