Teen Injured as His Car Strikes Bridge PDF Print

A Deep Gap teen was injured as his car crashed into a bridge just off of US 421 near the Wilkes County line late yesterday afternoon. Motorists passing the scene on Orchard Road found the teen sitting in his car, bleeding from a head injury—and injury the investigating trooper said was mostly caused by airbag deployment.  16-year old Timothy McMeans told the trooper it appeared that something locked up in the steering on his ’97 Subaru, causing him to crash into the bridge, but the trooper said a wheel was torn from the car in the crash, and that kept him from being able to confirm that.  McMeans was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane Control in the 3:40pm crash, and he was treated for his injuries at Watauga Medical Center.
