With Christmas just around the corner, area Christmas tree farmers are gearing up for what promises to be a busy weekend.Experts like Avery County Christmas Tree Association’s Jerry Moody predict this may be the biggest weekend of the season for Choose and Cut farms.
Rains over Thanksgiving weekend hurt area choose and cut farms, Moody says.
Farmers hope to make up for lost time this weekend. Christmas tree production represents 70 percent of Avery’s total farm income. Moody says between 1.2 and 1.5 million trees are harvested.
The industry affects area restaurants, gas stations- almost every job in Avery County.
