Commissioners talk Poplar Grove stoplight PDF Print
Monday, 03 December 2007 22:13

One of Boone’s most notorious intersections may see change sooner rather than later.

County Manager Robert Nelson Jr. opened discussion for a proposed stop light at the corner of N.C. Highway 105 and Poplar Grove Drive at the Watauga County Commissioner’s meeting yesterday.

The proposal comes as a result of growing traffic concerns, as many Boone residents and Appalachian State University students use this popular cut-through to avoid the constant gridlock on U.S. 321 and Highway 105.

The board entertained the possibility of having another DOT study done to analyze what would be the best option to make Highway 105 safer for motorists.

With the tragic fatal accident on Thanksgiving weekend still fresh on everyone’s mind, a proposal to further ensure safety on Highway 105 was approved by the entire board. Further deliberation will follow.

For clarification: Commissioners discussed the Poplar Grove intersection, not the Poplar Hill intersection.
