Fire in Johnson County affects ‘several acres’ PDF Print
Monday, 03 December 2007 05:34

A brushfire in Johnson County had firefighters busy last night.

The fire was called in just after 8 p.m., and, while official acreage has not been released, Sheriff Mike Reece says the blaze covered “several acres.” Officials say the fire raged three miles across the border in Trade, Tennessee.

The property-owner told officials that, while clear-cutting property, he accidentally dropped a lit cigarette to start the blaze.

No charges have been filed, and, according to Sheriff Mike Reece, that decision has not been made.

The fire attracted all county fire departments, including the Tennessee Forest Service. Last night’s rain sped up their efforts, and officials had control of the scene by midnight.
