An Appalachian State University student from Charlotte has received the N.C. Campus Compact Community Impact Award. Kara Brown received the award at the annual N.C. Campus Compact Student Conference held at East Carolina University. The award is presented annually to students who have made significant, innovative contributions to campus-based efforts to address community needs. 26 students statewide are recognized. As an inaugural member of NC-ACTS, Brown contributed 300 hours of individual service at a resource center for the local Hispanic population. Brown also co-founded Appalachian’s Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Brown is a senior psychology major who expects to graduate in 2008.
