New laws take effect Saturday- speeding motorists targeted PDF Print

More than 40 new state laws take effect Saturday- including one that targets motorists going more than 25 mph over the speed limit.

Those speeders will no longer be able to plead guilty to having a faulty speedometer of have a judge issue a “prayer for judgment” to lessen the consequences.

Other laws that go into affect increase punishments for carrying a weapon when breaking a domestic violence order, intentionally starving an animal, and desecrating a grave.


Bus drivers could face a $100 fine if caught on a cell phone, people who give alcohol to minors will have their license revoked and new laws also make it a felony to willfully pull down television or phone cables or power lines.
