A Nebo Christmas tree salesman was attacked by a stun gun Sunday in Hickory.

51-year-old Robin Lee Benge was shocked about 10 times and assaulted at his camper at the tree lot on U.S. 70 near Armstrong Ford.

Benge tells police a Mitsubishi compact car pulled up and customer stepped out- asking Benge for a 6-foot-tall tree. The customer attacked Benge with the stun gun when Benge’s back was turned. After stunning Benge, the assailant began to throw punches. Benge, armed with a handgun, responded by firing a shot. While no one was hit, the assailant did flee the scene in his vehicle without stealing cash or Christmas trees.

Benge’s assailant has been described as white, in his mid-30s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 to 160 pounds with a large nose and a clean shaven face. Anyone with information is asked to call Hickory police at 828-328-5551.
