Child rape alleged in Caldwell PDF Print
Tuesday, 27 November 2007 00:28

Caldwell County authorities have arrested a Morganton man they say assaulted a 10-year-old girl the morning of Thanksgiving.

26-year-old Ronnie Neil Penley has been charged with first-degree rape of a child, indecent liberties with a child and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held under a $500,000 secured bond.

Caldwell deputies say the assault happened in the northern part of the county. Penley is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim, forced his way out of the residence and fled the scene in a vehicle. When he lost control of the vehicle, Penley escaped on foot. It wasn’t until after 11 a.m. that authorities were able to apprehend Penley at his residence without incident.

Additional charges are pending against Penley, a registered sex offender. Penley is registered for a 2004 conviction of indecent liberties with a child.
