Ashe farmer heads home: First Lady accepts tree PDF Print
Monday, 26 November 2007 18:00

Ashe County Christmas tree farmer Joe Freeman is on his way home from Washington D.C. today.

Freeman presented First Lady Laura Bush with a 20-foot Fraser fir from his farm, Mistletoe Meadows, yesterday morning.

“The tree arrived on a horse drawn carriage, very festive, a marine band was playing.”

Freeman won the 2007 National Christmas Tree competition, a title that gave him the honor of donating the 2007 official White House Christmas tree. The tree is currently in the Blue Room waiting on the nearly 100 volunteers to decorate its branches.

Freeman plans on returning to D.C. after Christmas to see the final product.
