Ashe tree presented to First Lady Laura Bush PDF Print
Monday, 26 November 2007 10:17

Mistletoe Meadows’ Joe Freeman had a busy day. Winner of the 2007 National Christmas Tree competition, he received the honor of donating the official White House Christmas tree.

Freeman himself made the presentation this morning.

"The tree arrived on a horse drawn carriage, very festive. A marine band was playing. We made the presentation and the first lady was very gracious."

It was an exciting occasion.

"The tree turned out beautiful. They've got it standing up in the Blue Room."

Afterwards, the Freemans got a tour of the White House.

"There were 85 volunteers in the White House helping decorate... so it was very very busy today."

The Freemans will return to Ashe County tomorrow. They plan on visiting the White House after Christmas to see the fully decorated tree.
