Ashe farmer rests in Washington PDF Print

The 2007 White House Christmas tree came down Friday.Ashe County Christmas tree farmer Joe Freeman is in Washington D.C. today, preparing to present First Lady Laura Bush with a 20-foot Fraser fir.

The Mistletoe team had to bind the fir by hand due to its size.Freeman won the National Christmas tree competition and earned the honor of donating the official White House Christmas tree for 2007. The tree was selected last month and packaged Friday.

While in Washington, Freeman may meet with legislators and tour the White House- but there’s one thing he’ll definitely be doing.

“Resting from the harvest season!”

Freeman is the owner of Mistletoe Meadows Christmas Tree Farm.Joe Freeman himself helped cut the tree down.The Mistletoe Meadows team.The Arts Council presented the Freeman family with a commemorative quilt square.
