Shop with a shoebox this holiday weekend PDF Print

Operation Christmas Child’s regional director Phil Barks suggests you shop with a shoebox this holiday weekend.

“As folks go out and do their Christmas shopping… really think, ‘you know, here’s an opportunity for me to do something simple, to pack a shoebox, what we call the power of a simple gift, and impact a child living overseas.”

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, benefits underprivileged children by distributing shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and personal items at Christmas. Thanksgiving is a great time to participate.

“What an opportunity for us as we think about our blessings of Thanksgiving, with Christmas just a few weeks away, for an opportunity to give back and provide that smile and that joy and some hope to kids living overseas,” Barks says.

Drop off locations include the Processing Center off Bamboo Road, Reverend J.F. Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson, First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine and Lower Creek Baptist Church of Lenoir. For more information, call 1-800-590-3954 or visit
