Ski season in the High Country’s off to a staggered start.

Two of the four resorts are open: Sugar Mountain and Appalachian. Beech Mountain officials hope it will be next.

“We’re looking for a serious cold spell with several days… so that when we open up, we’ll open up in a big way.”

Marketing director Gill Adams says they have all their equipment ready- they’re just waiting on the weather.

Hawksnest officials do not have an estimated opening date at this time.
