Record –breaking traffic hits the streets of North Carolina this week, and Triple A’s public relations officer Liz Luke says be prepared.

“Highway travelers are expected to total about 1.09 million from North Carolina… that’s about a 2 percent increase over last year’s record breaking Thanksgiving travel,” she says.

Traffic, coupled with high gas prices, could make Thanksgiving traffic difficult.

“Gas prices have hit three dollars for the first time this November,” Luke says.

The nationwide average gas price is 3.09. Prices in Boone over Thanksgiving are expected to average 3.07. Winston Salem has the cheapest gas prices in North Carolina, averaging at 3.03.
