Health officials say heart disease is no longer the
leading cause of death in North Carolina.
It’s been replaced with cancer, even though heart problems are still the leading cause of death nationwide. Figures also indicate that more males died from cancer and more females died from heart disease. The third leading cause of death was stroke. These figures are from 2006. Health officials say to prevent heart problems by exercising and not smoking.
