Mountaineer accused of steroid possession PDF Print
Wednesday, 14 November 2007 22:16

jonathan_thompson_ray_small.jpg While he was dismissed from the program on October 8, steroid suspect Jonathan Ray was on the Appalachian State University Mountaineer Football roster for 2007.

Coach Jerry Moore says the dismissal came after a search warrant was executed on October 6. Syringes and steroids were allegedly found, but police had to wait on the SBI to confirm the identity of the substance, and couldn’t make the arrest until results came in Tuesday.

Moore says Ray said the situation was a misunderstanding. Moore told him to come back when the police could confirm his claim.

Ray, a 21-one-year-old junior sociology major at Appalachian State University, was charged with three counts of steroid possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ray was a nonrecruited walk-on defensive lineman and does not have a number on the roster. Moore says Ray never played in a game.
