Drug Suspect on ASU Football Roster PDF Print
Wednesday, 14 November 2007 08:38

jonathan_thompson_ray_small.jpg The Boone Police Department Narcotics Unit has issued several drug charges against a 21-year-old Appalachian State University Mountaineer.

Sociology major Jonathan Ray Thompson of High Point has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor possession of Schedule III controlled substances (steroids) and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from a search warrant executed at a home on the 2000 block of Highway 105 on October 6. Patrolmen initially came to his residence to question Ray about another incident and paraphernalia was in plain sight.  Items believed to be steroids as well as syringes were seized and sent to an SBI lab for analysis. The substances were confirmed to be three different steroids. While Ray, a junior, was on the football roster for the 2007 ASU Mountaineers, Coach Jerry Moore says he was dismissed over a month ago when drug rumors began to circulate. Moore says the defensive lineman never played in a game.
