A Granite Falls company will receive a 1.8 million dollar grant to build “Smart Containers”- and that’s good news for the area economy.
The grant is part of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act that President Bush signed on Tuesday. U.S. Representative Patrick McHenry announced Mariner Container Corporation is the proud recipient. Funding will go towards company’s production of state-of-the-art shipping containers equipped with tracking and payload communication features. “Smart Containers” are recyclable and contain tracking technology vital to port and national security. As McHenry sees it, the project benefits both the local economy and national security. Both the program’s manufacturing and data tracking operations will based in Caldwell County- which could bring hundreds of jobs to the area.
