With just over a month until Christmas, the town of
West Jefferson has already started thinking about Christmas in July 2008.
annual festival needs the town’s help to survive. Due to Department of
Transportation requirements on signage and street closings, the plan for next
year’s event has to change. Part of the festival may need to move back onto
Jefferson Avenue, its former location. Complaints from neighbors and
construction concerns are forcing festival planners to look for another
location. New additions to the festival last year, including the addition of
concerts, drew positive and negative feedback. The planning committee needs a
plan by December so applications can be mailed to prospective vendors in
January. Representatives from the town have been invited to next Tuesday’s
meeting of the Festival Committee at Ashe Arts Center. Anyone interested in the
festival is invited to attend at 5:30 p.m.
