Sugar still pumping snow PDF Print
Thursday, 08 November 2007 20:47

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort’s still pumping snow and expects a busy ski weekend.

While snow tubing and the new ice skating rink aren’t yet open- two of the slopes have seen skiers since Wednesday. Freezing temperatures on the mountain provide ideal temperatures for snowmaking- and, you can ski guilt-free. According to Sugar’s Kim Jochl, the snow blowers have no negative impact on the High Country’s water shortage.

“We have a couple of ponds here on the property that we keep our water in and then, when it’s time to make snow, we tap those ponds to make snow, and as it melts, it goes right back into the pond. It’s a recycling system.”

Other ski resorts are busily prepping for the ski season ahead. Appalachian Ski Mountain may be next. Its projected opening date is a week from today.
