Aycock's turn PDF Print
Tuesday, 06 November 2007 18:59

The runoff is over and planning board member Liz Aycock is the unofficial victor in Boone- and she couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s good to know that hard work and perseverance paid off. I’m so excited the voters all got out again and we had a really good turnout.”

Aycock received 924 votes (approximately 53 percent) over incumbent Dempsey Wilcox’s 808 votes. Wilcox told us before the election that this campaign’s been different.

“You know, I’ve been on the town council for 12 years, and I’ve never been in one (a campaign) that was this heated… I’ll be relieved when it’s all over.”

Wilcox told us Monday that if things didn’t go his way on Tuesday, he planned to take a short break before continuing his community activism.
