A statewide burning ban is still in effect.
With the High
Country entering its fall fire season, forest rangers are particularly
concerned. Fall leaves, coupled with the drought and water shortage, could
seriously complicate a wildfire.
County Fire Marshal’s Office’s Paul Buchanan says the recent rainstorm gave a
lot people the idea that the ban had been lifted. That’s simply not the case. A
forest fire would not only stretch High Country’s manpower resources, but its
water sources as well. Forest rangers do not see the ban lifting anytime soon.
