Victim’s business legit, Deputy says PDF Print
Friday, 02 November 2007 09:15

While deputies say a business transaction likely led to last month’s shooting death of Jonathan Whitmore, Detective Steve Cabe says Whitmore is not being accused of any illegal activity.

His business was perfectly legitimate and, according to Cabe, there was a great need for his services. Whitmore owned and operated an environmental cleanup business that removed asbestos. The suspect in his murder, Durham’s 42-year-old Keith Donnell Miles, has been named as a business associate of Whitmore’s. Cabe would not elaborate on the details of the business transaction, due to the impending trial.

The State Bureau of Investigations and Durham Police apprehended Miles Wednesday and charged him with first-degree murder. Miles is in Wilkes County custody. Cabe says that, while the investigation is ongoing, no other suspects are being investigated.

Whitmore’s body was found in a ditch near his residence at the intersection of Holland Street and Mimosa Lane outside of North Wilkesboro last month.
