Grandfather hiker is okay PDF Print
Monday, 29 October 2007 19:00
A hiker who fell on Underwood Trail at Grandfather Mountain yesterday afternoon is just fine according to Grandfather’s Crae Morton.
In fact, with minimal help from rescue personnel, she was able to hike off the trail and declined medical help. A fellow hiker, who happened to be a doctor, was of great assistance, Morton said. The incident proved local rescue organizations could handle themselves in the event of an emergency. While the terrain made the rescue difficult, personnel followed protocol and arrived at the scene within the hour. Grandfather Mountain’s staff is relieved the incident had such a happy ending, Morton said. Local rescue agencies, including Avery County Rescue and Blowing Rock Fire Department, impressed him with their response. The area is “fortunate,” he said, to have such qualified firefighters and medics.
