Caldwell Commissioners Washington-bound PDF Print
Sunday, 28 October 2007 19:00

All five Caldwell County commissioners travel to Washington tomorrow to participate in a series of meetings.

Commissioners hope that by meeting federal officials face to face, they’ll get results.

Commissioners hope to meet with North Carolina Forest Service associate deputy chief Gloria Manning to discuss the forest system’s role with Wilson Creek. The area along the creek has been under a subdivision moratorium since earlier this year.

Commissioners also hope to meet with Anthony Bigsby from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Federal Detention about the possibility of locating a federal prison at the Foothills Regional Airport. They’ll also discuss the issue with Republican Representative Patrick McHenry and Republican Senators Richard Burr and Elizabeth Dole.

Funding for the trip comes from county moneys budgeted for lobbying purposes for the 2007-08 fiscal year.
