Watauga’s movers and shakers gathered at Boone Town Council
Chambers Saturday for a discussion entitled Watauga Planning and You.
program, sponsored by Partnership for Watauga’s Future, gave an overview on key
issues including steep slope and walkability.
Representatives from the North Carolina Geologic Survey
discussed mapping methodology and preliminary findings of its current Watauga
County landslide hazard mapping project. Experts have located flow tracks from
the infamous 1940 flood in Watauga County, and hope the information will help
prevent future tragedy.
Saturday was the first of what Partnership President
Kathy Copley (COP-LEE) hopes will be several information sessions. It’s an easy
way citizens can get involved in issues important to their community, she says.
