Tuesday, 23 October 2007 20:54

Funeral services for a man whose body was dumped in a ditch near his home in Wilkes County have been set for Friday at 2 p.m. at New Damascus Baptist Church.

That man, 44-year-old Jonathan Wayne Whitmore, was found shot in the head, and, authorities say it was homicide. Deputies have yet to release names of any formal suspects, and will not comment on the status of the homicide investigation. Detective Steve Cabe did tell us that there were specific leads to investigate.

Hopefully, as the investigation progresses, he’ll have something to tell the press, he said.

Family members last saw Whitmore on Thursday evening. He was found early the next morning along the southeast side of his property near the intersection of Holland Street and Mimosa Lane.

Deputies are still receiving tips. Anyone with information should call Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office at 336-838-9111.
