Sculptures celebrated: Downtown gets artsy PDF Print
Tuesday, 23 October 2007 20:53

The Downtown Boone Development Association celebrated the addition of sculptures to King Street in a ceremony yesterday.

The Public Art Program will eventually include downtown gateways and murals- making a Boone a better place, according to local businessman and county commissioner John Cooper.

Arts are a vital part of the downtown community, he says.

The sculptures, work of Moncure sculptor Kevin Eichner, adorn planter boxes beside town hall near the parking lot entrance, and, were installed over the summer. Accompanying street gardens not only complement the artwork, but also provide green space, businessmen say.

The project began in December, 2006 when the Community Appearance Committee passed a resolution to support public art in downtown Boone.
