A Georgia woman was airlifted from near the scene of a head-on motorcycle-car crash yesterday afternoon on US 221 near where Avery, Caldwell, and Watauga Counties meet—the crash actually on the short Caldwell stretch.  The state patrol identified the injured woman as 48-year old Sandra Marie Annis of Locust Grove, Georgia.  The trooper said the motorcycle she was riding went left of center on the curvy road, slamming into the car of Rutherfordton resident James Charles Weegar.  Avery county firemen from Linville set up a landing zone for WINGS Air Rescue to land at McRae Meadows, and the woman was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.  The state patrol still had the accident under investigation late last night.
