Monday, 22 October 2007 19:26

Newly reelected Mayor Loretta Clawson with run-off candidate Dempsey WilcoxLiz Aycock, right, won the two-year slot in the election- but must campaign to keep her spot. One Stop Voting has been going on since last week for several High Country communities, including Newland, Beech Mountain, Blowing Rock and Seven Devils.

Today, Boone voters can start participating in the runoff election. A two-year term on Boone Town Council is at stake, and incumbent Dempsey Wilcox seeks to reclaim his seat from newcomer Liz Aycock.

While One Stop voting is off to a slow start in Beech, Blowing Rock and Seven Devils, Board of Elections director Jane Hodges expects Boone’s runoff to be different.

"I'm expecting it to be heavy because they're going to have a shortened period of time in which to vote. They're only going to have ten days for One Stop," Hodges says.

The election takes place on November 6.
