Governor says cut water use by half PDF Print
Monday, 22 October 2007 12:50

Governor Mike Easley at a highway dedication earlier this month.Governor Mike Easley urged North Carolinians today to cut their water use by 50 percent between now and Halloween.

The request comes after Easley has already asked communities across the state to conserve water as an unprecedented drought worsens statewide. 71 out of the state’s 100 counties are classified in exceptional drought, the highest classification. Easley encouraged residents to experiment with drastic cuts in water use over the next week so officials can see whether the state will be able to manage as the supply of water continues to drop. Easley’s office will monitor public water systems across the state, then release a list of those that saw significant reductions in water consumption between today and October 31.
