Monday, 22 October 2007 07:20

Authorities in Wilkes County are still investigating the Friday morning discovery of a man, fatally shot in the head.

43-year-old Jonathan Whitmore of North Wilkesboro was found in a ditch near the intersection of Holland Street and Mimosa Lane just after 7 a.m. While preliminary autopsy results have been released to authorities, a more conclusive autopsy is pending. Sheriff’s officials are releasing little information on the incident, but, according to Detective Steve Cabe, the investigation is moving along.

"We've had some leads to pursue," he said.

No arrests have been made, and deputies have yet to release names of any formal suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office at (336) 838-9111.
