Two injuries came in a five car collision just out of Boone late yesterday afternoon.  The crash was on US 321 just south of the town limits as a 2006 Hummer, heading into town, failed to stop for traffic stopped near Country Club Road, slamming into the rear of a Lexus, knocking it across the road into the south-bound lane where it struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The Hummer then struck a ’96 Ford Explorer, injuring driver Michael Hernandez and a juvenile passenger as it then struck a Mazda SUV. Watauga Medics transported the two to Watauga Medical Center where they were treated and released, while the SHP charged the Hummer driver, Richard Phelps, 58, listing a Clearwater Florida address with Driving While Impaired and Failure to Reduce Speed.  Damage was extensive to the five vehicles involved and most were probably totaled in the 4:30pm accident.
