A Banner Elk man died Tuesday morning when his car was struck by a car flung off a trailer behind a South Carolina man’s truck.  Glen Edward Cross, who lists Banner Elk and Litha Florida addresses, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:20am crash.  Trooper Alan Greer said that Freddie Foggie Jr., of Boiling Springs South Carolina, was traveling south on Beach Mountain Parkway when his truck seemed to lose its brakes, and Foggie was not able to control the vehicle, and the two cars he was hauling were thrown off the back, both striking vehicles climbing the hill toward Beech Mountain. One killed Glen Edward Cross, the other struck Michael Winkler’s car, but the Granite Falls man was not hurt.  Trooper Greer said that Foggie managed to finally stop his ’97 Dualie a third of a mile from the wreck site. He was charged with misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, and may face other charges as the Motor Carrier division is looking into the truck’s condition.
