Avery Power Outage Set for Tonight PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank
Saturday, 21 July 2012 18:56

A large swath of Avery County customers of power provided by Mountain Electric from the TVA will be cut off for up to 10 hours tonight. 15,000 customers will be effected by the outage, which will stretch through Banner Elk, Newland, Linville, Linville Falls, Crossnore, Altamont, Pineola and Jonas Ridge.  The reason for the outage is that the TVA is replacing equipment at the Cranberry substation, and the work—and the outage—is expected to last 8 to 10 hours, beginning at 11 tonight.
