Body of Fallen Airman Back in Boone; Funeral Saturday PDF Print

The body of Major Ryan David arrived in Boone late yesterday afternoon, after being flown into Charlotte and picked up by Austin and Barnes Funeral Home.  With an escort of volunteer cyclists, the hearse arrived in Boone after 6pm.  Austin and Barnes announced yesterday that the Holmes Convocation Center will be used for the final goodbye for Major David, the National Guard airman from Boone Killed July 1st while fighting a South Dakota wildfire. The floor of the Holmes Center is being prepared for at least 1000 in attendance for the funeral Saturday.  The State Highway Patrol is to use their Caisson unit in the transport of David’s body from the funeral home to Holmes, with firefighters lining the nearly one-mile route down Rivers Street as he was killed in the line of duty fighting a fire.  A contingent from the 145th Air Wing will take part, a two-star general is slated for the funeral, according to Mike Austin, who said the caisson unit should arrive at Homes at about 1:30 for the 2pm Saturday funeral.  Family of Major Ryan David will have a receiving at Boone United Methodist Friday afternoon 2 to 4.
