Ashe County Commissioners could impose a moratorium of up to
90 days on new billboards in the county.
A public hearing on the issue is
planned for after their regular meeting Monday at 5 p.m. Commissioners have
received widespread criticism of the number of billboards going up around the
county. Some say the billboards negatively impact views and scenery in Ashe.
The county would use the 90 days to develop ordinances to regulate billboards.
Currently, all that’s required is a building permit from the county.
The meeting starts at 3:30, to be followed by the
public hearing at 5 p.m.
