So, when you woke Wednesday morning, it was in the mid 40’s in the High Country—refreshing to natives, downright cold to seasonal residents from warmer climes. By the weekend, folks in the warmer climes may be fleeing to the High Country to escape triple-digit temps that may well break records. For locals, it will be quite hot at 90 or so during the weekend—and a whale of a difference in a three-day span.  The cause is the same weather system that has fanned the fires in Colorado and baked the central part of the country for much of the week.  The air mass overruns the cool, dry air that moved into the High Country Monday evening, and brings us some really hot weather, peaking Saturday.  With the Fourth of July week getting underway, and Piedmont TV stations already planning coverage of the great escape to the mountains due to the heat, we just might see record crowds here.  Get ready to move over and say ‘hi’ to the heat escapees—and carry an extra bottle of water to share.
