Waterways to be Closed Wednesday PDF Print

The National Park Service will be testing valves at Price Lake beginning at  8:30 AM today, creating a dangerous outflow in the waterways.  Due to the outflow into waterways, Emergency Management has issued a warning to avoid being in Boones Fork Creek from Price Lake Dam to the confluence of the Watauga River and from there to Hwy 194/Broadstone Road and the Watauga River Road.  The release indicates that water levels should not leave the river banks but the flow will make the waters unsafe for anyone in the River due to the water surge.  Law enforcement Officers and Emergency Personal have been advised and will be present along the streams. The valves at Trout Lake and Bass Lake will be tested later today causing more outflow danger, and the creeks downstream from these Lakes should be avoided for the day.  Anyone with questions should contact the Watauga County Emergency Management Office at 828-264-4235 or the National Park Service 828-298-2491.
