Boone Election: Revote Possible PDF Print
Tuesday, 09 October 2007 23:54

img_1216_small.jpg With over two thousand voters, yesterday’s election had record turnout.

img_1217_small.jpgResults were in before 8 p.m. last night in what some commentators called the most hotly contested race in the High Country. While provisional ballot totals have still not been released, unofficial results from the Watauga County Board of Elections show incumbent Mayor Loretta Clawson has defeated candidate Tim Wilson by over two hundred votes.

Stephen Phillips, the apparent top vote-getter in the council race, appears to be replacing Bunk Spann. Lynne Mason came in second in last night’s numbers, followed by Dempsey Wilcox. The race may not be over, however. Mason and Wilcox did not receive 40 percent of the vote. This means that fourth and fifth place finishers Bunk Spann and Liz Aycock have the right to request a revote. The question is, will they?
