Many believed Appalachian State University was key in this year’s election.Boone residents like Carol Hatch spent yesterday with the students.
She was in Plemmons Student Union talking to students about the importance of voting.
It’s not about endorsing one particular candidate, Hatch says. It’s about getting a message to students.
They are the future, she says- "It's going to be your world, and if you start preparing yourself and really know issues, I think the world will be a bettery place."
Students were a vital part of progressive candidates Loretta Clawson's and Lynne Mason's victories.
At the two ASU precincts, Clawson received a combined total of 205 votes compared to Tim Wilson’s 129. The turnout at Appalachian State University means one thing, Clawsons says- that students do care about the issues. For complete precinct totals, visit www.goblueridge.net.
