Boone May Suspend Water Extensions if Soucek Bill Passes PDF Print

The Boone Town Council met in executive session last night to decide how to react to Senator Dan Soucek’s bill to take away Extraterritorial Zoning Jurisdiction from Boone. The evening started with a water committee meeting in which two recommendations were made to go before the town board later this month, according to councilman Andy Ball, "We talked about a lot of different implications of what's going on right now with Senate Bill 949 and passed two motions; one being that we recommend to town council that, if the bill passes, if there's action on the bill and it does pass, that we suspend all new water connections or extensions outside the town limits. The other one was for the Water Committee to itself unanimously oppose Senate Bill 949."
Boone Utilities Director Bill Miller said that the town has some a good number of utility customers outside the town limits, “Of that 375, about 315 are in the existing ETJ. The remaining approximately 60 are outside in the county areas."
That matter will be on the council agenda the third week of June.
