The Ashe County board of Education has approved Carrie Snyder as Ashe County High School's new band teacher. Snyder graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education. "Her passion for music and the students was displayed in the interview process." said Callie Grubb, assistant principal of Ashe High, adding that "Not only will Carrie create an inspiring environment for the students to connect with music, but she will also set high expectations for growth and accomplishments." The Human Resource Department received several inquiries and applications for the position of the new band teacher. The interview team screened approximately 18 completed applications and selected six candidates interview. The new band teacher replaces Ashe County High School's old band teacher, Ryan Claar, who was indicted by an Ashe County Superior Court grand jury back in March on 3 counts of the felony offense of a teacher taking indecent liberties with a student. The Ashe County Board of Education suspended Claar from employment with the school system in February. He later resigned.
