Three council seats and a mayor job are at stake, and Watauga Board of Elections director Jane Hodges says so far the election is going smoothly on her end.

"It's going well, very slow. We're disappointed in the turn out right now, but we hope that will improve later on," she said.

Even so, 1,119 votes have already been cast thanks to mail-ins and one-stop voting.

"We've got about 8,000 people out there who could go out and vote, and we'd like to see them vote," she said.

The polls close at 7:30 p.m. For voting questions, call the Board of Elections at 828-265-8061.

The absentee ballots, as well as the one-stop votes will be counted at five today. The numbers are should be released round 7:30 p.m. Hodges says completed election totals should be out ASAP- hopefully by 8 p.m. Stay tuned and visit for the latest election details.
