Monday, 08 October 2007 22:23

It’s finally here: Election Day in Boone,

and Watauga County Board of Elections director Jane Hodges is ready.

The polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

She’s got a busy day. Not only does the board have to make sure everything’s going smoothly at the precincts, but there are things to do at the Board of Elections office.

It's customary to be swamped with phone calls on Election Day, she says.

The last of the absentee ballots were approved at a 2:30 meeting yesterday. The absentee ballots, as well as the one-stop votes will be counted at five today. The numbers are expected to be released at 7:30. As for complete election totals? Hodges says they should be out ASAP- hopefully by 8 p.m. Stay tuned and visit for the latest election details.
