After months of planning, revising, meeting historical renovation design guidelines, and reviewing bids Boone Town Council approved Greene’s Construction Company of Boone for the downtown post office project. Architect, Randy Jones, who has worked closely with Town officials and the Town Council on this important project for downtown presented information to the Council on the bid process, “Greene Construction was the lowest responsible bidder with $1,189,454.”  He then recommended to Council the awarding of the contract to Greene Construction based on his knowledge of their capabilities and good track record. The Council unanimously approved Greene Construction after which the mayor and several Council members expressed their pleasure that a local company had received the contract. Skip Greene was introduced to the Council, who expressed approval of a local firm getting the contract on top of news that the Post Office would still function as such thanks to recent congressional action.
